Project team

In the end of 2025 CISR e.V. co-initiated the new cooperative Erasmus+ project “European Placemaking Academy”. Together with our partners we have started to develop a platform for adult non-formal education, which will be shaped and released during following years.

During the project we will conclude research on existing practices and ideas of placemaking to critically approach it, come up with our own understanding of the concept, and provide a collaborative space to exchange and share knowledge on the topic. Alongside with creation of the online platform, a number of offline events will be held — including training sessions in Germany, Norway, and Portugal and UrbanConfest in Belgium.

Instead of delivering ready-made solutions, the European Placemaking Academy emphasizes collective inquiry and learning from real-life experiments in public space. The project also builds on long-standing cooperation between CISR e.V. (Berlin), Culture Goes Europe (Erfurt), Urban Foxes (Brussels), Contextos (Portugal), and Kirkens Bymisjon (Norway) — a partnership united by a shared belief in participatory, inclusive, and creative approaches to shaping urban life.

Project description

Started in 2023, the project NoBorderSpace provides a platform to discuss complex and relevant issues such as the history of the relationships, intercultural contacts, imperial and colonial legacies, memory and the politics of history, nationalism, and contemporary conflicts. It also explores methods, approaches, and prospects for their peaceful transformation. Participants from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Belarus joined a series of dialogues held in Baku, Yerevan, Batumi, Tbilisi, as well as the autumn school “International Dialogue for Understanding and Cultural Exchange” in Telavi.
