The Warning the City/Zens Conference: How do military conflicts affect cities, people and environment?

Time & Location

Sep 27, 2024, 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Berlin, Lenaustraße 3, 12047 Berlin, Germany

About the event

The conference will explore the devastating effects of military conflicts on urban environments, social structures, and ecosystems. We will focus on that part of the post-Soviet space and the former Yugoslavia, where armed conflicts and wars have unfolded in recent decades. We will talk about the fate of cities that have survived urbicide, how warfare affects the ecology not only of cities but also of large regions; and how the memory of conflicts and wars changes memorial landscapes, including those cities they did not reach.

We invite researchers, journalists, activists, and interested individuals to share their observations, knowledge, and experiences during this one-day event organized by CISR e.V. - Berlin and Dialogue for Understanding e.V..
